30 Days of Prayer

A month-long prayer guide for biblical eldership at Cedar Grove.

Christ, Our Head

1. Christ, the Head of the Church
(Col. 1:18; Eph. 1:22–23)
Pray that Christ alone would be exalted as the true Head of Cedar Grove Baptist Church.  
 
2. The Chief Shepherd
(1 Peter 5:4; John 10:11–14)  
Pray that Jesus would raise up under-shepherds who reflect his sacrificial care.  
 
3. God’s Sovereignty
(Proverbs 16:9; Psalm 127:1)
Pray that the Lord will establish our steps and build his church.  
 
4. Dependence on the Spirit
(Zechariah 4:6; James 1:5)
Pray that this work will be accomplished by the Spirit’s wisdom and power.  
 
5. The Fear of the Lord
(Proverbs 9:10; Galatians 1:10)
Pray that a reverence for God, not the fear of man, would guide us.

The Congregation’s Heart

6. Humility in the Body
(Philippians 2:3–4; James 4:6)
Pray that our personal preferences would bow to biblical convictions.  
 
7. Unity of the Spirit
(John 17:21; Ephesians 4:3)  
Pray that the Lord will deepen unity among the body and guard against division.
 
8. Guarded Speech
(Ephesians 4:29; Proverbs 18:21)  
Pray that our words would build one another up and not tear down.  

9. Patience in Process
(Psalm 27:14; Ecclesiastes 7:8)
Pray that the Lord would grant us a steady trust and endurance.
 
10. Trust in the Lord
(Proverbs 3:5–6; Isaiah 26:3)
Pray that the Lord would grant us settled confidence in his direction.  

The Shepherds’ Character

11. Above Reproach
(1 Timothy 3:2; Psalm 15:1–2)
Pray that future elders would have evident integrity in life and reputation.
 
12. Faithful in Marriage & Home
(1 Tim. 3:4–5; Josh. 24:15)
Pray that future elders will display godly leadership within their households.
 
13. Self-Controlled & Mature
(1 Tim. 3:2; Gal. 5:22–23)
Pray that future elders would have Spirit-produced self-control and maturity.
 
14. Hospitable
(Titus 1:8; Romans 12:13)  
Pray that future elders’ homes and lives would be open to the flock.

15. Able to Teach
(1 Timothy 3:2; 2 Timothy 2:15)  
Pray that future elders would rightly handle and faithfully proclaim God’s Word.  
 
16. Gentle, Not Quarrelsome
(2 Tim. 2:24–25; Prov. 15:1)  
Pray that future elders would have strength expressed through patience and gentleness.
 
17. Not Lovers of Money
(1 Timothy 3:3; Hebrews 13:5)  
Pray that future elders’ motives would be pure and free from personal gain.

18. Holding Firm to Sound Doctrine
(Titus 1:9; Acts 20:28–30)  
Pray that future elders will guard the truth and correct error faithfully.  

The Shepherds’ Willingness

19. Clarity of God’s Will
(1 Timothy 3:1; Jeremiah 17:10)  
Pray that the Lord would make his will clear and purify motives.
 
20. Courage in Oversight
 (Acts 20:28; Joshua 1:9)  
Pray that potential qualified elders would not shrink from responsibility.
 
21. Protection of Their Families
 (Job 1:10; Psalm 121:7–8)  
Pray for spiritual protection over the elders’ marriages and children.
 
22. Endurance in Shepherding
(Gal. 6:9; 1 Cor. 15:58)
Pray that God would grant long-term, steadfast faithfulness.

A Wise Transition

23. Fidelity to Scripture
(Acts 20:27; 2 Timothy 3:16–17)
Pray that every revision of our documents would flow from careful biblical conviction.
 
24. Unity & Charity in Deliberation
(Col. 3:14; Prov. 15:22)  
Pray that God would grant a gracious discussion and Spirit-led agreement.  

25. Wisdom & Clarity in Writing
(Habakkuk 2:2; James 3:17)  
Pray that God would provide precise, wise, and pastoral language for our documents.  
 
26. Integrity & Transparency
(2 Corinthians 8:21; 2 Cor. 4:2)
Pray that the transition team will lead honorably and openly.  

Guarding the Church

27. Protection from Division
(Eph. 4:3; Rom. 16:17–18)
Pray that the Lord would preserve unity and guard against discord.
 
28, Peace After Decisions
(Colossians 3:15; Philippians 4:6–7)  
Pray that the church would have settled peace after leadership is formed.  
 
29. A Culture of Discipleship
(Eph. 4:11–12; 2 Tim. 2:2)
Pray that the elders would equip the saints and multiply faithfulness.
 
30. Glory to God Alone
(Psalm 115:1; Jude 24–25)
Pray that this entire season would result in God’s glory for generations to come.
